If you have a custom domain, there are a few ways to change where it leads visitors. For example, if you have another Squarespace site, you can move your domain there. If you’re comfortable with more advanced domain settings, you can use domain forwarding and pointing. This guide will help you choose the best option.
Other ways to move a domain
Forwarding, pointing, or moving between sites aren't always the right solutions for what you want to achieve with your domain. Before you begin, see if any of these options are a better fit:

Move your domain to a different Squarespace site
If you no longer need your domain at your current site but want to use it with another Squarespace site on your account, you can disconnect it from your current site and reconnect it on the new site. Visitors can use the same URL, but they’ll see the new site. You can move Squarespace Domains or third-party domains.
To learn more, visit Moving a domain between sites.
Rebrand your site with a new domain
If you’re renaming your site, you may want a new domain name to match. As long as you keep your old domain linked to your site, it will automatically redirect to your new domain. This helps keep your regular visitors coming back.
To learn more, visit Moving your site to a new domain.
Forward a domain
If you need to direct your Squarespace Domain to a new site or page and you want visitors to see a different URL, you can forward the domain. Visitors will enter your original URL and see it change to the second site or page’s URL.
This is an advanced step, so we recommend reviewing other options first.
To forward a Squarespace Domain, you’ll need:
- The domain or subdomain name
- A target URL, either on the same Squarespace site or any non-Squarespace site
To learn more, visit Forwarding a Squarespace Domain.
Point a domain
If you need to direct your Squarespace Domain to a new site and want to keep the original URL intact, you can point the domain. Visitors will enter your original URL and see the content at the new site, but they won’t see the URL change.
This is an advanced step, so we recommend reviewing other options first.
To point a Squarespace Domain, you’ll need:
- The domain or subdomain name
- A target URL to enter as a CNAME OR an IP address to enter as an A Record, from any non-Squarespace site. (Also see the note below)
To learn more, visit Pointing a Squarespace Domain.
Point a subdomain
To point a subdomain to another Squarespace site, follow our steps for setting up the correct records on both sites. It’s not possible to point a domain or subdomain to a different page of the same Squarespace site.
