Per an agreement with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), all domain providers are required to lock a domain for the first 60 days after registration or transfer. Squarespace Domains LLC's agreement with ICANN also requires offering an optional 60-day domain lock after changing the Owner's contact information. This 60-day lock prevents you from transferring your domain to another provider.
While this timing is out of Squarespace's control, this guide reviews options for directing your domain to another site while you wait for the 60-day lock to end.
Squarespace Domains
If your Squarespace Domain is locked and you want to use it with another website host, you can point it to another site. After the 60-day lock has ended, you can transfer your domain away from Squarespace.
Third-party domains
If your third-party domain is locked and you want to use it with a Squarespace site, you can connect it to your site. After the 60-day lock has ended, you can transfer your domain to Squarespace.
Some third-party domain providers will also lock your domain for 60 days if you change the domain’s contact or registrant information. To avoid your domain becoming locked, reach out to your domain provider before taking these actions.
