Importing products from Shopify, Etsy, and Big Cartel

If you’re moving your online store to Squarespace, you can import your product inventory from Shopify, Etsy, and Big Cartel.

This is a one-time import process, and it won’t continually sync inventories. Any updates you make in Squarespace or the other platform won’t appear in the other platform.

You can also use our .csv template to import products.

Note: Manually created .csv files won't import correctly. To successfully import products, follow the steps below using an export file from the platform you’re moving away from, or our .csv template.

Product importing is available on the Commerce Basic and Advanced plans.

What imports to Squarespace

In version 7.1, you can import up to 10,000 products per Store Page. In version 7.0, you can import up to 200 products per Products Page. In both versions, products can have up to 100 variants.

The following product information will import to Squarespace:

• Shopify
• Etsy
• Big Cartel

• Title
• Description
• SKU
• Price
• Variants
• Weight
• Images

To import products with unlimited quantities, leave the Variant Inventory Tracker column blank in Shopify's .csv file.

Keep in mind:

• Only active Etsy products export this information
• Variant-specific prices and quantities don’t import. Variants will have 0 stock and prices will all be the same.
• Digital products from Etsy will import as physical products. To sell digital products on Squarespace, recreate them as digital products manually.

Import products to Squarespace

Follow these steps to import products to Squarespace from Shopify, Etsy, and Big Cartel.

1. In your Shopify account, follow their steps to download a .csv file of your inventory. Save the .csv to your desktop or somewhere convenient.
2. In your Squarespace site, go to the Home Menu, click Commerce, then click Inventory.
3. Click the ... icon in the top-right corner. 
4. Click Import.
5. Click Shopify from the Import Products menu.
6. Drag and drop the .csv file from Shopify into the upload box.
7. Click Import.
8. A Success message displays after the import is complete.

1. In your Etsy account, follow their steps to download your listing information. Save the .csv to your desktop or somewhere convenient.
2. In your Squarespace site, go to the Home Menu, click Commerce, then click Inventory.
3. Click the ... icon in the top-right corner. 
4. Click Import.
5. Click Etsy from the Import Products menu.
6. Drag and drop the .csv file from Etsy into the upload box.
7. Click Import.
8. A Success message displays after the import is complete.

4. Click Big Cartel from the Import Site menu.
5. Enter your full Big Cartel URL. For example, http://examplestore.bigcartel.com.
6. Click Import.
7. A Success message displays after the import is complete.

Find your imported products

The imported products will display in a new Products Page in Squarespace, hidden from navigation. It's not possible to import products to an existing page. To find the products:

1. In the Home Menu, click Pages.
2. In the Not Linked section, click the page called Imported Products. If you don’t see it, refresh your browser.

Next steps

Now that your imported products are on your new site, you might want to:

• Add your imported products to a navigation menu. To learn more, visit Moving pages around your navigation.
• Change the URL and Page Name in page settings.
• Edit the products’ information and images.
• Add more products to the page.
• Move the products to different Products Pages.
• If shoppers have unused gift cards from a previous platform, create a unique discount code for each customer so they can use their remaining balance in Squarespace.

Troubleshoot import issues

Products from Etsy didn't import

If your products from Etsy didn't import, check the image URLs on the .csv file you imported. If an image is hosted on the Etsy CDN, and the URL begins with https, the product won't import. Image URLs hosted on the Etsy CDN contain the word "etsystatic," like this:

https://img1.etsystatic.com/...

To fix this, remove the s and ensure all image URLs begin with http. Then upload the file again.

As a first step in troubleshooting other product import issues, use our .csv template instead of .csv exports from other platforms.
